FMLA Parental Leaves for non-regular rank faculty
Non-regular rank faculty may take a parental leave under the Family Medical Leave Act (see The Faculty Handbook, Chapter 4). University policy makes this leave available for twelve weeks, without pay, except for full pay during the second three-week segment of the leave. If needed, Arts and Sciences will move the pay to the first three weeks of the twelve-week period. Duke will pay its portion of monthly health-care insurance premiums during the entire leave. Because of the health-care contributions from the benefit pool, this leave must be granted by the Provost. The Department should seek guidance about how to make all this happen through a pay exception.
