I serve as the academic dean for non-degree students (also known as Continuing Studies students) and all summer visiting students. Administratively, I am the director/dean of the Duke Office of Continuing Studies and Summer Session and a volunteer advisor for the Academic Advising Center.
As a native of Mobile, AL, I came ‘north’ for graduate studies. I received my Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School and my Ph.D. in Religion (field: American Christianity) from Duke University. I live about seventeen minutes from campus in Orange County where I oftentimes see deer, foxes, raccoons, opossums, rabbits, owls, and bats in my back yard. My husband, Stanley Hauerwas, and I are the caregivers for a geriatric Siamese of 18 years, along with birds of all varieties and caterpillars we hope will survive long enough to become black swallowtail butterflies. In my free time I serve as the Assisting Pastor at The (Episcopal) Church of the Holy Family.
