Refreshing Scholars@Duke Widgets

Trinity Technology Services takes advantage of Scholars@Duke data widgets to populate department member profiles for those people who have Scholars@Duke profiles. Periodically, these widgets grow stale and need to be re-indexed so that they include the most recent changes that are seen in an individual's public-facing profile.

Scholars@Duke power users, who are largely a superset of TCA&S Drupal editors, have the ability to determine if a data widget is out of date and re-index a data widget if that is the case.

If you are not seeing recent changes made in Scholars@Duke reflected on the respective individual's profile on your Drupal site, your should first check to see if the data widget is out of date. Here are the steps to:

  1. Locate the person's profile in Scholars@Duke.
  2. Click the 'Add Date to my Website' button in the top-right corner of the profile.
  3. Click the 'Advanced' button on the Widgets page, then click the 'JSON' option.
  4. Search on the page for the change you expect to see, for example an updated phone number or office location.

If this search returns no results, then the widget likely needs to be re-indexed. To re-index an individual's data widgets:

  1. Locate the person's profile in Scholars@Duke.
  2. Click the 'Manage This Profile' button in the top-right corner of the profile.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click the 'Request Indexing' link in the footer of the page.

A confirmation message will appear at the top of the page; the updated data should appear on the individual's respective profile on your Drupal site within 24 hours.
